Britpart sponsors The Welsh Borders Hill Rally 2022

The Welsh Borders Hill Rally sponsored by Britpart

18/05/2022

Britpart are excited to sponsor The Welsh Borders Hill Rally taking placed between the 27-29th May 2022 in Welshpool, Mid Wales.

This unique 3 day event will be the first UK Hill Rally to use closed public roads as part of the stages. With a combination of tarmac roads, grass, mud and gravel tracks the drivers and their vehicles will be tested throughout the weekend!

The history of the Hill Rally traces back to 1969 when a BBC TV programme - Wheelbase - made a short film ‘Off The Beaten Track’. The film followed the 13th running of a now highly regarded event ‘Rallye des Cimes’ based in the Pyrenees in France.

It was 51 years ago that the first UK Hill Rally was operated in Llangollen, North Wales. That first Hill Rally was won by a brand new vehicle, a Range Rover, driven by Roger Crathorne and co-driven by Vyrnwy Evans.

In the 1970s there were five Hill Rallies, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that they resumed with good entry numbers. Unfortunately in the 2000s the numbers declined and despite attempts to resurrect Hill Rallies in 2015/16 the entry numbers were not sustainable.

In 2018/19 two single venue Hill Rallies were organised by That’s Motorsport at Walters Arena in South Wales. After a few years break due to covid, we are excited to see the return of Hill Rallies in the UK with The Welsh Borders Hill Rally taking place. The first multi-venue Hill Rally in the UK to use public roads as part of the special stages.

We are pleased to be one of the main sponsors of the event in addition to hosting the scrutineering on Saturday morning at our Britpart Newtown site. Programmes will be available at the event with suggested donations to the Welsh Air Ambulance charity.

Also sponsoring the event are our friends at Ravenol, to view our selection of Ravenol consumables click here. Find the right oil for your vehicle with our Ravenol Oil Reference Guide
