29/01/2021

The 29th January 2021 marks 5 years since the Defender production finished, since then we have seen the introduction of the All New Defender, a capable modern vehicle. The production of the original Defender ran for 67 continuous years, with a total of just over 2 million Series and Defender vehicles produced.

The last Defender to roll of the production line had the special registration plate H166 HUE, a note to the first ever pre-production Land Rover registration HUE 166.

It is without a doubt the Defender has become an adored icon. For many, Defenders hold precious memories - perhaps it was the vehicle that you taught your child to drive in, showed them how to fix it, or took countless off-roading trips in! The timeless design has been used in countless applications - from farming, mountain rescue, ambulances, military, off-roading, overlanding expeditions, ice cream trucks and even Bond movies. The Defender offers something for everyone; making it easy to see why the affection for Defenders around the world continue to grow each day!

Did you know?

It was not until 1990, the the name Defender was applied, previously the original Land Rovers had simple been referred to by their series number and lenght of their wheelbases in inches. The introduction of the Discovery 1 in 1989 caused confusion as it was also referred to as Land Rover, leading to the decision in 1990 to name the original Land Rover the Defender. The name Defender was in acknowledgment of its use in the armed forces.
